Time Changer may be a little strident in its core message (i.e., ethics don’t count unless they’re backed by the force of Christ), but as an above-average feature for the Christian market, it’s pretty agreeable. D. David Morin stars as a late-19th-century Bible professor named Carlisle, whose efforts to publish a book arguing that morals can be taught independent of Christ’s teachings is denounced…

So often in many people’s lives, there is an awakening. For some it comes out of nowhere, and for others it seems as though it has always been. Seemingly from darkness, a light turns on, and all that was once confusing becomes clear, and all that was once hidden is revealed. Some call this enlightenment. Some call this a revelation. Some call this peace. I call it an awareness of the heart. The fol…

It summarizes the reasoning of all points of Christian theology, which before the Protestant Reformation subsisted solely in the Roman Catholic Church. The Su…

''Siris'' revisited: Did Berkeley change his mind?

”Siris” revisited: Did Berkeley change his mind?

$49.99

This dissertation argues that Siris is a continuation of Berkeley’s earlier theological and philosophical views. The Berkeley of Siris is the same Berkeley of the Commentaries, Principles, Dialogues, and Alciphron. Furthermore, Siris is an important piece to the Berkelean puzzle.;Chapter 1 demonstrates the correlation between Berkeley’s Bermuda project and Siris.;Chapter 2 responds to scholars who argue that in Siris Berkeley departs from the Christian faith and argues that Berkeley’s primary goal in Siris is to promote Christianity.;Chapter 3 shows that it is evident from Siris (as in his other writings) that Berkeley is a weak panentheist, a term I define and use to contrast Berkeley with Moltmann. Berkeley’s weak panentheism stems from his theocentric idealism and allows him to remain orthodox.;Chapter 4 contends that while most scholars categorize Berkeley as a rule-utilitarian, he should actually be regarded as a virtue theorist. Siris is an important text to understanding Berkeley’s moral philosophy.;Chapter 5 contains a summary of the conclusions drawn from this project, as well as suggestions for further research.

A Christian Theology of Religions: Critical Dialogues on Religious Pluralisms

A Christian Theology of Religions: Critical Dialogues on Religious Pluralisms

$30

Renowned theologian and philosopher of religion John Hick takes a hard look at intellectual problems facing Christians in the late twentieth century: Where exactly does Christianity fit into the scheme of the world in light of other world religions? and Is it possible to remain Christian while accepting the truth of other beliefs? Employing the use of a dialogue between Phil (philosophy) and Grace (theology), Hick explores the validity of other religions and Christianity’s place among them. Offering good reasons for why the traditional stance that Christianity is the only true religion is no longer workable, he puts forth a cogent defense of Christianity in the global context of other religions. This book is must reading for those concerned about the uniqueness of Christianity and how it is to be interpreted theologically in today’s world.

A Companion to the Works of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing

A Companion to the Works of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing

$81.45

One of the most independent thinkers in German intellectual history, the Enlightenment author Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729-1781) contributed in decisive and lasting fashion to literature, philosophy, theology, criticism, and drama theory. Lessing invented the brgerliches Trauerspiel (bourgeois tragedy) and wrote one of the first successful German tragedies as well as one of the finest German comedies. In his final dramatic masterpiece, Nathan der Weise, he writes of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, of religious tolerance and intolerance and the clash of civilizations. Lessing’s dramas are the oldest German theater pieces still regularly performed (both in Germany and internationally), and both his plays and his drama theory have influenced such writers as Goethe, Schiller, Hebbel, Hauptmann, Ibsen, Strindberg, Schnitzler, and Brecht. Addressing an audience ranging from graduate students to seasoned scholars, this volume introduces Lessing’s life and times and places him within the broader context of the European Enlightenment. It discusses his pathbreaking dramas, his equally revolutionary theoretical, critical, and aesthetic writings, his original fables, his innovative work in philosophy and theology, and his significant contributions to Jewish emancipation. The volume concludes by examining 20th-century reception of Lessing and his oeuvre. Contributors: Barbara Fischer, Thomas C. Fox, Steven D. Martinson, Klaus L. Berghahn, John Pizer, Beate Allert, H. B. Nisbet, Arno Schilson, Willi Goetschel, Peter Hyng, Karin A. Wurst, Ann Schmiesing, Reinhart Meyer, Hans-Joachim Kertscher, Hinrich C. Seeba, Dieter Fratzke, Helmut Berthold, Herbert Rowland. Barbara Fischer is associateprofessor of German and Thomas C. Fox is professor of German, both at the University of Alabama.

It is now almost 2000 years since the birth of Jesus Christ set in motion the chain of events which led to the creation of the Christian faith and its diffusion throughout the world. In this book the author has attempted to survey the whole history in one volume.

The language of Modern, that is to say of Post-Muham- madan, Persia, was naturally, for practical reasons, an object of interest and study in Europe long before any nt serious attempt was made to solve the enigmas presented by the three ancient languages of which this chapter will briefly trace the discovery and decipherment: to wit, the Old Persian of the Achaemenian inscriptions, the Avestic idiom, and the Pahlawi of Sasanian times. The study of Modern Persian, again, was preceded by that of Arabic; which, as the vehicle whereby the Philosophy of the Greeks, especially of Aristotle, first became clearly known to Western Europe, commanded in a far higher degree the attention and interest of men of learning. A Primal Perspective on the Philosophy of Religion

$115.33

Philosophy of religion as a discipline first arose in Europe; its subject matter has been profoundly influenced by the practices of European Christianity. While Eastern and Western religions subsequently found a place in these studies, one global religious tradition, namely, the primal tradition, remains unrepresented in its discussions. This book examines the significantly different perspectives offered by primal religions on virtually every theme discussed in the philosophy of religion.

How is the study of philosophy and theology in Islam different than Judaism and Christianity?

Is Jesus, the Son of God? TRINIDAD here many Bible stories that deny the divinity of Jesus: John 1:18 Timothy 6:16 Exodus 33:20 John 5:30 John 8:50 John 12:49 John 20:17 Matthew 28:18 Matthew 12:28 Luke 11: 20 Acts 2:22 JOHN8: 40 b) a Messenger Many verses in the New Testament supporting the probe Messenger / hood prophet Jesus. What follows are some – a few: In Matthew 21:11, the people of his time are recorded as a reference to Jesus as a prophet: "And the crowd said:" This is the prophet Jesus of Nazareth in Galilee. "In Mark 6:4, it says that Jesus refers to himself as a prophet: "And Jesus said:" A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and among his relatives and his own house. "In following verses, Jesus refers to as having been sent as a messenger is sent. In Matthew 10:40, Jesus said: "Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. "In John 17:3, Jesus is quoted as saying:" And that's life eternal that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. "c) A man, for example, in Matthew 19:17, Jesus responded to whom he addressed as "O good master", saying: "Why call me good?" It is good, but one God. "If he refuses to be called" good "and said that only God is really good, which clearly implies that he is not God. In John 14:28, Jesus said: "The Father is greater than I." So that left no room for any claim that intelligent person he was God. Even in some of the writings of Paul, Jesus is mentioned as a "man" separate and distinct from God. In 1 Timothy 2:5, "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. "In the Gospel according to Mark 13:31-32, Jesus is also reported have denied knowing that the last time this world would be, saying: ".., day and hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son except the Father. "One of the attributes of God is omniscience, knowledge of all things. Therefore, his denial of knowledge of the Day of Resurrection is the negation of the divinity, for someone who does not know the time of the last hour can not possibly be God. Refutation of the "evidence" the divinity of Jesus: Further evidence used in the divinity of Jesus is the application of the title "Son of God" Jesus. However, it are many places in the Old Testament where this title was given to others: "God called Israel (Prophet Jacob) his "son" Exodus 4:22-23, ".." Thus saith the Lord, "Israel is my firstborn son," the prophet of God has promised to make his son David in Psalm 89:26-27: ".. I will do my firstborn." Angels are mentioned as "son of God" in the Book of Job 1:6 "Now there was a day when the son of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. "It can also refer to: Samuel 8:13-14 Genesis 6: 2-4 Romans 8:14 Luke 3:38 Psalm 2:7 Matt. 5:45 1Chro. 22:10 2Chro. 6:18 Some argue that what is unique in the case of Jesus, is that is the Son of God, while others are simply "children of God." However, God is recorded as saying to Prophet David, in Psalm 2:7, "I say with the Lord: He said, 'You are my Son, today I have begotten you." "It should also be noted that nowhere in the Gospels, Jesus calls himself "Son of God. "Instead, he indicated that the repeat sometimes called himself" Son rights "(eg Luke 9:22) innumerable times. The term" son of God "simply means" Servant of God, "which for his loyal service, was near and dear to God as a child is a father. Therefore, the use of "son of God" should only be understood the symbolic significance of the servant of an anti-Semite "God" and not in the pagan sense of a literal descendant of God. In four Gospels, Jesus is recorded as saying: "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called son of God."
