Acknowledging that young adulthood now encompasses ages 18???39, Ralph Watkins and Benjamin Stephens explore the issues and offer the words of young adults themselves as testimony to the spiritual longing and critique of the aging church’s ministry”

A Handbook for Parents and Church Workers: Facilitating the Transformation from Childhood to Men and Women of God

A Handbook for Parents and Church Workers: Facilitating the Transformation from Childhood to Men and Women of God

$13.77

The first chapters of this handbook deal with the basic reasons why many children raised in church today do not live a Christian life when they become adults, and what can be done about it. This book also covers the effects of our culture on our kids, and what we can do about that. Thirdly, this book contains a lot of practical information concerning communication with kids (including communication with teenagers), discipline of kids, and classroom management. Fundamental differences between effectively working with pre-adolescent children versus effectively working with teenagers are described in detail. Information is provided to help the parent or church worker teach and train kids about a wide range of vital topics, including sex, peer pressure, wisdom, schoolwork, finding a spouse, finances, finding a purpose in life, dealing with anger, and dealing with a culture that does not honor God. Foremost and most importantly, this book is all about helping your kids establish a strong, solid, unshakable relationship with the Living God. This handbook is for anybody who works with boys or girls. It is also for anybody working with teenagers, also known as adolescents or “youth”. It is for parents and for those who work with kids but are not parents. This book is for folks with kids born yesterday, for people with kids born 20 years ago, or for anybody who thinks they might be responsible for a kid of some age at sometime in their life. This means that teenagers will benefit from this book! These young people need to see the big picture regarding how adults should relate to children and teenagers. They need to see it now, before they have children of their own.Sales of this book support the ministry of True Life Church, located in Brier Creek, North Carolina. (www.mytruelife.org)

A Spider Trap

Pope John Paul II – Tear down your wall of sins”As a victim of sexual abuse by an alcoholic, pedophile priest at the age of 11, I endorse this book and this message.” – Gerald Payne (June 11,2004)”A Spider’s Trap” the sequel to “Don’t Holler at Me, I Didn’t Write the Bible”, gives a vivid crisis of the problems that are embed throughout the Christian Bible that dove-tail precisely with the problems that are embed in the clergy within the Roman Catholic Church, as well as all denominations of religion established that are of the Christian faith.Don’t Holler at Me, I Didn’t Write the Bible first deals with the Bible. It was easy, and to be expected, mistakes were made, as they were hand copied and passed from one generation to the next. In many cases, the holder of a bird quill entered his or her own ideas into the manuscript. Under the best possible temperature control, and the best quality print materials, paper, ink, etc . . . like one might find in the Library of Congress manuscripts would hold its quality, at best, for just a few hundred years. For that reason history has only a few hundred years old manuscripts in existence today. The modern discovery of allegedly ancient manuscripts has caused some publicity-seeking individuals to endorse these recently discovered manuscripts as authentic. They are nothing more than forgeries, fakes that common sense dictates that no other decision needs to be considered. The second part of my sequel to Don’t Holler at Me, I Didn’t Write the Bible deals with the sexual abuse of children and young adults by the clergy of the Roman Catholic faith, starting in January of 1992 to December, 2003. As we speak, factual recorded history of child sex abuse by the Roman Catholic clergy and priests – bishops, archbishops, cardinals – as reported in the news print names, dates, places, the cover-ups, suicides, number of priests,

A Workbook on Biblical Stewardship

Amazing Conversions: Why Some Turn to Faith & Others Abandon Religion

Amazing Conversions: Why Some Turn to Faith & Others Abandon Religion

$13.99

This groundbreaking study uncovers fascinating new data on sudden shifts in religious and nonreligious belief. Amazing Conversions explores, for the first time ever, the reasons why converts join, and apostates go. The focus of this absorbing study is on some amazing people, with unique stories to tell those who join a religious group in spite of being raised in nonreligious (or even antireligious) families, and those who, at great personal cost, choose to leave religion in spite of having a deeply religious background. Why would an atheist’s son become a Christian fundamentalist? Why would a “good Catholic girl” decide that she really is an atheist? The authors of Amazing Conversions, both social psychologists, surveyed thousands of young adults to find that small number who were “amazing believers” or “amazing apostates.” These rare individuals tell their stories, which are supplemented by their responses to a detailed questionnaire. The resulting picture shows that amazing believers and amazing apostates are dramatically different groups of people, in spite of the fact that their lives now stand in opposition to previous (non)religious training. You, too, can complete the same questionnaire to learn more about yourself and your beliefs. Have you experienced an amazing conversion?”Readers interested in the intellectual, emotional, and social influences on religious belief and non-belief will find the scenarios of individuals fascinating reading.” – Small Press”. . . thoroughly worthwhile.” – Free Inquiry

 C. S. Lewis Remembered: Collected Reflections of Students, Friends & Colleagues

C. S. Lewis Remembered: Collected Reflections of Students, Friends & Colleagues

$13.25

What was it like to have C. S. Lewis as a teacher? Most people know C. S. Lewis through his writings, but in his lifetime he was first and foremost a teacher. Now those who were influenced by what they learned from his teaching offer a unique view of one of the most influential Christian writers of all time. What was it like to study under C. S. Lewis when he taught at Oxford and Cambridge? How did his influence and teaching create a legacy that has influenced educators since? C. S. Lewis Remembered is a collection of interviews and essays that offer personal perspectives on Lewis the teacher and Lewis the man. These recollections portray him in all his humanity: both the irascibility and the brilliance, both the ferocity of his intellectual precision and the eagerness of his curiosity. Some of this book’s contributors chose to study with Lewis because of his Christian faith. Others admired him as a scholar but never shared Lewis’s interest in religion. Still others shared his mere Christianity but differed with him over his Protestantism. But all of them came into contact with Lewis when they were young adults, whether they were students, colleagues, or those who knew him informally as a teacher. Many of them followed in his footsteps and became educators as well. Former students such as W. Brown Patterson, Peter Milward, and Peter Bayley talk about what it was like to study under Lewis. A recent lecture by Walter Hooper and essays by such noted scholars as Barbara Reynolds offer additional insight on Lewis and his influence. Also included are pieces by Lewis’s godson, Lawrence Harwood; a transcript of an interview with Owen Barfield, a friend whoknew Lewis from the time Lewis returned to Oxford after World War I and who played an important role in Lewis’s shift from atheism to belief in God; and a hitherto unpublished sketch of Lewis by Mary Shelley Neylan. In addition, an article that appeared in SF Horizons, a magazine for science fiction f

Continuing the Christian tradition of wisdom imparted through letters, Michael Jinkins here explores big questions of life and faith that challenge people of all ages, especially young adults. Lewis and the topical relevance of Anne Lamott. / Readers will find in these pages startling insights illuminating our contemporary experience as human beings, whether Christian or not. Conversing throughout with an amazing range of thinkers and writers Calvin, Bonhoeffer, Lewis, Flannery O”Connor, Rumi, and Frederick Buechner, to name just a few Jinkins doesn”t hesitate to share his own frustrations with some aspects of the church, including the failure of many Christians to examine what they believe. Eloquent, edgy, and honest, Called to Be Human offers well-written, accessible, surprising food for thought.

Caught with Bibles: A True Story from Communist Romania

Caught with Bibles: A True Story from Communist Romania

$8.88

“Caught with Bibles: a True Story from Communist Romania” is the story of Constantin Sfatcu, a Romanian Christian who was arrested in 1985 for transporting Bibles in his car. He was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. The account is related by his sister, Genovieva, who was rescued from Romania by President Jimmy Carter and emigrated to the United States in 1980. Through her struggles with grief over her brother’s imprisonment, Stephen steps into her life to encourage her. As a prisoner’s wife, Estera Sfatcu suffers months of torment, not knowing whether her husband is dead or alive. She and Constantin’s brother, Teodor Sfatcu, his wife Erzso and their mother, Maria Sfatcu, endure many threats and interrogations. Their experiences illustrate what life is like for a prisoner’s family. The Lord used an article in the New York Times, a senator’s visit to the prison, attendance at the trial by U.S. Congressmen and Members of the British Parliament, as well as economic pressure on Romania by the Reagan administration to answer prayer for Constantin and his family. His release in 1986 was a victory for the suffering church, but also a lesson for those in the free world, that they should value their freedom. The Sfatcu family received political asylum in the U.S. and now reside in California. Young people and adults alike will benefit from reading this book.

Confirmation Notebook: A Guide to Christian Belief and Practice

Confirmation Notebook: A Guide to Christian Belief and Practice

$1.99

At a time when there are often as many adults as young people preparing for confirmation, the concept of notes written in adult language, which the younger candidate can grow into, is particularly appropriate for today’s needs. The growing number of adult study groups, working through mutual questioning within group discussions, will find it helpful to have these clear succinct notes about the content of Christian belief and practice. Few books have been more influential in confirmation preparation than Hugh Montefiore’s ‘Confirmation Notebook’, written while he was vicar of the University Church in Cambridge. After five editions, with nineteen printings of the fifth edition alone, the notebook is now in a handy pocket-sized format that includes space at the end of each chapter for notes. Existing chapters have been updated and, in most cases, enlarged, while new chapters have been added on ‘Common Worship’, Christian festivals and fasts, Christian responsibilities, Christian behaviour, and the Christian view on sex and marriage.

Dinner With The King engages young people through creative, down-to-earth settings that draw from important biblical images and theological understandings of Holy Communion. These chancel dramas are imaginative, playful, and allow for wide participation. They get at the heart of Christian understanding in an accessible way. This is a fun and valuable tool.Peter Strommen Bishop, Northeastern Minnesota Synod Evangelical Lutheran Church in AmericaHere’s a set of six chancel dramas that will captivate young people (and the entire congregation) while helping them to learn the deeper significance of the sacramental meal at the heart of Christian worship — and what it means to be invited guests at the Lord’s Table. Originally conceived for middle-school age youth, these flexible pieces can be adapted for any size group; some can even be performed by adults. Minimal props and costumes are required, so the sketches are perfect for smaller churches — yet they lend themselves to more elaborate presentation as well. These insightful dramas are excellent not only for presentation during worship, but also for congregational programs, youth nights, classroom instruction, or individual devotional reading.Titles include:* Dinner With The King* Passover* Jesus Food* Partytime* Youth Retreat* The Evening “Good” NewsGary W.
