Beauty by God: Inside-Out Secrets for Every Woman

Beauty by God: Inside-Out Secrets for Every Woman

$0.99

Some Christian women believe they must downplay their appearance in order to be godly, but looking your best doesn’t have to mean maintaining a supermodel image. Women can be creative with their appearance and enhance God’s gift of beauty without feeling guilty. Women face the world each day under pressure to look their best. How can they balance the desire to uncover and maintain God-given outer beauty with inner beauty arising from their faith? Beauty coach Shelly Ballestero helps women navigate pressure from the world to meet unrealistic standards of outer perfection and inspires them to discover the true beauty God designed in them, inside and out! Beauty by God offers the reader both spiritual principles to develop inner beauty and practical tips for caring for her God-given body. “Shelley helps women acknowledge the struggle that we all deal with inside outsides and she helps us see that true beauty is a combination of mind, body and spirit.” Kim Alexis. SupermodelSHELLY BALLESTERO is an inspirational beauty coach, an esthetician/makeup artist and a beauty editor for Lifestyle magazine. She is a graduate of the prestigious International Academy and has taught students and teachers the art of makeup. Shelly also holds certifications as a nutritional consultant and a personal trainer, and is a graduate of one of the top makeup schools in the industry. Formerly an actress on One Life to Live, also serves as a makeup expert for Jane Iredale cosmetics. She is married to Dove Award winning musician, Angelo Ballestero, and is the mother of two sons.

 Broken Jar

Broken Jar is for those who wish to be transformed by the Potter from a showboat into an ark of testimony for Him. It is for earthen vessels who know that to be continually molded by His hands-even broken and reformed, if need be-is the only way to keep bearing His hallmark-the only way to continue glorifying the true Potter. From January through December, these daily devotionals, anchored deeply in the Word of God, ask challenging questions about growing pains and comfortable stagnation:• Are we allowing the Potter to do as He pleases with us, the clay?• Do we trust Him to put pressure where it is needed to mold us to His liking, or do we stiffen at and shrink from His touch?• When we arrive at a shape we like, do we grow so proud and possessive of this present form that we disengage ourselves from the wheel to harden into an independent and finished pot to remain permanently “fixed”?This book is for those jars who refuse to stay fixed.Jan Doke is a retired high school English/Bible Literature teacher. She lives in Belton, Texas with her husband, Larry. When she is not writing, she enjoys studying and teaching the Bible, speaking at women’s retreats, mentoring at a drug-rehab center, traveling, hiking, fishing, cooking, and playing with her five grandchildren. She has been published in Christian Woman magazine and is currently working on her first novel, Out of the Chute in Azalea Heights.

 Choices That Lead To Godliness

Choices That Lead To Godliness

$6.23

Here is an excellent book for women who want to develop the ability to make wise discerning choices. Through studies of Scripture and with a casual writing style and humor, the author challenges the reader to become more sensitive about applying God’s Word to the myriad of life’s daily decisions….The book is divided into two parts: “Choices in Our Outer Life” and “Choices in Our Inner Life.” The “outer life” section includes speech, temper, and friendship, among others. The “inner life” section covers the mind, the conscience, the nature of prayer, worship, God’s Word and Bible study. Morley is Scriptural (in fact, always bringing every issue back to what Scripture says) and pointed. She doesn’t skirt the issues such as emotion vs. reason, entertainment vs. edification, God’s Word vs. our word….The book would make a great gift….THE BAPTIST BULLETIN”This is the best book I have read to help women be godly in their walk with Christ.”Library Reviewer, Community Bible Church, Richardson, TexasOther respected ministries that recommend “Choices:”Southern Baptist Association of Biblical Counselors (SBABC)Grace Harbor Counseling Ministries Counseling Solutions Evangelical Training Association Today’s Christian Woman Virtue Magazine Provident Bookfinder The Discerning Reader

 Counseling Survivors Of Sexual Abuse

Counseling Survivors Of Sexual Abuse

$18.99

This powerful book deals with the issue of how Christians, especially those called to counsel, can help survivors of sexual abuse find healing and hope. From 20 years of experience, the author demonstrates how counselors can walk alongside people deeply wounded by sexual abuse as they face the truth about who they are, who their abuser was, and who God is as the Savior and Redeemer of all life. Counseling Survivors of Sexual Abuse issues a strong call to the church at large to walk with survivors through the long dark nights of their healing. Diane Mandt Langberg, Ph.D., has been a licensed psychologist in private practice for nearly 25 years. She is a speaker at local and national conferences for clergy, women, couples, students, and professionals. Dr. Langberg writes the counselor column in Today’s Christian Woman magazine. Her books include Feeling Good, Feeling Bad and Counsel for Pastor’s Wives. Diane lives in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, with her husband and two teenage sons.

 Eve's Diary (Illustrated Edition)

Eve’s Diary (Illustrated Edition)

$8.23

First published in the 1905 Christmas issue of the magazine Harper’s Bazaar, and in book format in June 1906 by Harper and Brothers. This comic short story is written in the style of a diary kept by the first woman in the Judeao-Christian creation story, Eve, and is claimed to be “translated from the original MS.” The illustrations by Lester Ralph depicted Eve and Adam in their natural settings and created a controversy around the book due to the depictions of an unclothed woman.

Fairy Tales Can Come True: How a Driven Woman Changed Her Destiny

Fairy Tales Can Come True: How a Driven Woman Changed Her Destiny

$0.99

The riveting memoir of Rikki Klieman–an enormously successful defence attorney and television personality–as she discovers the possibilities of love in middle age with Los Angeles’ new police commissioner, Bill Bratton. Thirty-five-year-old Rikki was named one of America’s top five female trial attorneys by Time magazine for her work in criminal defence, one of the toughest branches of law for a woman to enter. She defended clients ranging from accused drug smugglers to media moguls to well-meaning Christian Scientists Ginger and David Twitchell, whose beliefs were put on trial after the death of their child. She waged a war of nerves with Boston police and the FBI during negotiations for the return of fugitive sixties radical Katherine Ann Power. As Rikki moved from success to success, however, the frenetic lifestyle of a defence attorney began to damage her health and happiness. She suffered from exhaustion, chronic back pain, and two failed marriages, but considered these afflictions to be part of “the price of the prize.” After several decades as a practicing attorney, she joined Court TV, where she gained national prominence covering the O.J. Simpson trial and she went on to host Court TV’s daily show Both Sides. Now, at midlife, this warrior with a woman’s heart has finally achieved, in her loving marriage to LAPD chief Bill Bratton, the balance many seek but few find. Her dramatic story proves that fairy tales can come true and that great love and great success can go hand in hand.

The author Grady W. Troute has been an elder with the Centerville Church of Christ in Centerville, Ohio, for about three decades. It has been a work of love. His roots with the church go back through his mother’s side of the family to an early Arkansas pioneer, Michael Womack. Memories of Grady’s youth go back to the Pleasant Home congregation, just out of Murfreesboro, Arkansas. Grady spent the last years of his career in management with General Motors and Electronic Data Systems. There was a time when Grady began to record and keep the communion comments that he made when asked to preside over the Lord’s Supper. The number recorded grew and in a somewhat surprising way “fed back”, influencing Grady as much or more than the audience. Cascading thoughts came, suggesting that more attention should be paid to the communion, congregations should emphasize it more, and more men should be recording their communion remarks to their congregations. Additionally, younger men should be taught. When Grady’s communion themes numbered in the thirties, a book of 52 was more in reach. The author has been profoundly moved by thoughts of communion.

“We need to understand our stories because our lives depend upon it.” — Ted ChamberlinThe stories we tell each other reflect and shape our deepest feelings. Stories help us live our lives — and are at the heart of our current conflicts. We love and hate because of them; we make homes for ourselves and drive others out on the basis of ancient tales. As Ted Chamberlin vividly reveals, we are both connected by them and separated by their different truths. Whether Jew or Arab, black or white, Muslim or Christian, Catholic or Protestant, man or woman, our stories hold us in thrall and hold others at bay.Like the work of Joseph Campbell and Bruce Chatwin, this vital, engrossing book offers a new way to understand the hold that stories and songs have on us, and a new sense of the urgency of doing so. Drawing on his own experience in many fields — as scholar and storyteller, witness among native peoples and across cultures — Ted Chamberlin takes us on a journey through the tales of different peoples, from North America to Africa and Jamaica.Beautifully written, with insight and deep understanding, If This Is Your Land, Where Are Your Stories? examines why it is now more important than ever to attend to what others are saying in their stories and myths — and what we are saying about ourselves. Only then will we understand why they have such power over us.Author Biography: J. Edward Chamberlin is Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Toronto. Previously Poetry Editor of Saturday Night Magazine, he has worked extensively on native land claims in the United States, Canada, Africa and Australia. His books include TheHarrowing of Eden: White Attitudes Towards Native Americans (1975) and Come Back to Me My Language: Poetry and the West Indies (1993).
