Much was written about Will Ferrell’s first “dramatic role” as Harold Crick, an IRS auditor who begins hearing a voice narrating his life. But Stranger Than Fiction is hardly a drama. Crick leads a lonely life filled with numbers an…

Miniatures and Morals: The Christian Novels of Jane Austen

Miniatures and Morals: The Christian Novels of Jane Austen

$16

“Jane Austen’s novels are not only still widely read, but they also continue to influence modern film and literature. In both their moral content and their focused, highly detailed, “miniaturist” execution, they reveal Austen’s mastery of the art of fiction and her concern for Christian virtues exercised within communities. Her sharp wit and sense of irony entertain, edify, and challenge both men and women alike. From theological and literary angles, Leithart unpacks both character and theme while summarizing each of Austen’s major works. For all who desire a richer appreciation of her enduring genius, Leithart offers a hearthside seat.”

According to Wikipedia: “George MacDonald (10 December 1824 – 18 September 1905) was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian minister. Known particularly for his poignant fairy tales and fantasy novels, George MacDonald inspired many authors, such as W. H. Auden, J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, E. Nesbit and Madeleine L’Engle. It was C.S. Lewis that wrote that he regarded MacDonald as his “master”: “Picking up a copy of Phantastes one day at a train-station bookstall, I began to read. A few hours later,” said Lewis, “I knew that I had crossed a great frontier.” G. K. Chesterton cited The Princess and the Goblin as a book that had “made a difference to my whole existence.”

Thtfact that he did so is of some significance as indicating a likeness in spirit between the two men. Given that two individuals bear a resemblance in spirit, will their literary produc tions also bear a resemblance? This leads to the thesis herein advanced: That Thackeray and Horace bear great resemblances to each other both as men and as authors: as raen, in that they looked upon life in meny respects with the same eyes; and as authors, in that their methods and style show likenesses. In a treatment of Thackeray and Horace as men their outlook upon humanity and society, their lessons of life use may very properly be made of all the writings of each; but in a treatment of them as authors, it scarcely need be said that more attention will be paid to the satires and epistles of Horace and the greater novels and later essays of Thackeray; for not only do the satires and epistles approach more nearly prose composition and thus afford a more satisfactory basis of comparison, but both authors, in the compositions chapter{Section 4named, appear on the whole in their most mature and least artificial state. Especially, in comparing the two authors as to style, the satires and epistles must be taken as a basis rather than the odes and cpodes. But what justification is there for instituting a comparison between an English prose-writer of the nineteenth century of the Christian era and a Roman poet of the laet century before Christ? All men, born in Pagan or Christian era, reared under English or Italian skies, are still men, and members of the universal human family. The Drama Of Man

The Drama Of Man

$10.3

LITERATURE/RELIGIONThe Crossroad of Faith and LiteratureEvery great story has a hero, love, sacrifice, and a lesson to teach us about ourselves, and all of them point to the greatest story ever told-the Drama of Man. It is the tale we are all acting in, written and directed by the best storyteller who ever lived: God himself. This book is a journey into the heart and mind of the Author of Life. It is an exploration of the Grand Story, the history of God, angels, and men, the Christian experience, and the spiritual battle being waged on the stage of time and eternity. Using his knowledge in theater arts, literature, and storytelling, teacher and author D.M. Yell writes a book that probes and provides answers to the age-old question: What is the meaning of life? He takes us through the entire divine story in a rapid and compelling way to show us that once we have seen the large picture of life, the better will we understand the part we were meant to play. Stories can change our lives; even save our very souls. God is still alive. He is waiting for us to get to know him. D.M. YELL is an English and Drama teacher at Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, California. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Deanna, and their two children, and spends his spare time writing fantasy/adventure and action/adventure novels and screenplays. He has two more up and coming series to look out for in the near future: Mesoz Wars and Renaissance Jack.

Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (1828-1910) commonly referred to in English as Leo Tolstoy, was a Russian writer – novelist, essayist, dramatist and philosopher – as well as pacifist Christian anarchist and educational reformer. He was the most influential member of the aristocratic Tolstoy family. His first publications were three autobiographical novels, Childhood, Boyhood, and Youth (1852-1856). They tell of a rich landowner’s son and his slow realization of the differences between him and his peasants. As a fiction writer Tolstoy is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all novelists, particularly noted for his masterpieces War and Peace (1869) and Anna Karenina (1877). In their scope, breadth and realistic depiction of 19th-century Russian life, the two books stand at the peak of realist fiction. As a moral philosopher Tolstoy was notable for his ideas on nonviolent resistance through works such as The Kingdom of God is Within You (1894).

 Women and Children First

Women and Children First

At a crucial time in American history, narratives of women in command or imperiled at sea contributed to the construction of a national rhetoric. Robin Miskolcze makes her case by way of careful readings of images of women at sea before the Civil War in her book Women and Children First. Though the sea has traditionally been interpreted as the province of men, women have gone to sea as mothers, wives, figureheads, and slaves. In fact, in the nineteenth century, women at sea contributed to the formation of an ethics of survival that helped to define American ideals. This study examines, often for the first time, images of women at sea in antebellum narratives ranging from novels and sermons to newspaper accounts and lithographs. Anglo-American women in antebellum sea narratives are often portrayed as models of American ideals derived from women’s seemingly innate Christian self-sacrifice. Miskolcze argues that these ideals, in conjunction with the maritime directive of “women and children first” during sea disasters, in turn defined a new masculine individualism, one that was morally minded, rooted in Christian principles, and dedicated to preserving virtue. Further, Miskolcze contends that without the antebellum sea narratives portraying the Christian self-sacrifice of women, the abolitionist cause would have suffered. African American women appealed to the directive of “women and children first” to make manifest their own womanhood, and by extension, their own humanity.

Found in this volume is Yeast, a little tale which was hoped to call the attention of wiser and better men than of the author, to the question of the rising generation, and to the absolute necessity of solving them once and earnestly, unless we would see the faith of our forefathers crumble away beneath the combined influence of new truths which are fancied to be incompatible with it, and new mistakes as to its real essence.

I believe in one God. I like my way. I do not belong to religion. Why not respect The Christians?

I a very close relationship with God. I am not affiliated with a religion because I refuse to read anybook written by men. Sorry, it my choice and use of God have inspired him to write an apology. It was written by men and that is that the Bible and treated as a novel or a book written by several authors. But Christians and I really mean that Christians continue to criticize my beliefs and I say that I will hell. Funny to say that my love for the Lord God is strong and free of any religion written by man. God has warmed my life gave me a family, $ 120K a year of his career, a stable and fulfilling. God has done so much to me and the sky is my destiny. Christians do not realize they make Christianity the most hated religion ever undertaken by his delusions and offend other people of different faiths? May God bless you

In short, many Christians do not apply the commandment of love. Personally, based on their beliefs, if you believe in Jesus as your Savior and have accepted his gift of salvation is the end … Sometimes we're in places that do not go to church, do not read the Word, God orders the evil and help us get through these times. His Word is His Word, not man, nobody could enter their own with him. Ultimately if you are looking with his word an open mind and are ready to leave will show you what is what, he is faithful and displays timely, must see. We currently do not attend church. I read the Bible every day and I can say that the more I read (I'm in Rome), the more I see in Mijas is his love letter and "rule book" for us. Be ready to show you the truth and He does not let you down … Good luck and God bless.
