Although Quentin Tarantino has cherished Enzo G. Castellari’s 1978 “macaroni” war flick The Inglorious Bastards for most of his film-geek life, his own Inglourious Basterds is no remake. Instead, as hinted by the Tarantino-esque misspelling, this is a lunatic fantasia of WWII, a brazen re-imagining of both history and the behind-enemy-lines war film subgenre. There’s a Dirty Not-Quite-Dozen of mos…

Excerpt: Mortification is an Australian Christian extreme metal band. As one of the first and most successful Christian extreme metal bands in the world, they serve as inspiration for many of today’s Christian metal bands. The group was formed in 1990 from the ashes of Christian power metal band Lightforce by Steve Rowe, Cameron Hall and Jayson Sherlock. Over the years Mortification has released over twenty records and several videos on major record labels such as Nuclear Blast. During the early 1990s Mortification “belonged to the elite of the death metal movement,” especially with their widely praised album Scrolls of the Megilloth. After the departure of their original drummer Mortification began experimenting with groove metal, hardcore punk and power metal. They achieved notable commercial success with Blood World, though the critics have not been interested in the band after the 1996′s critically acclaimed EnVision EvAngelene. Despite critical backlash, the band has maintained its status as “some kind of superstars in the Christian metal scene,” and have been called in the mainstream media as “a legend in the death metal scene.” They returned to their deathrash roots on the 2004′s Brain Cleaner album. In the late-eighties, bassist Steve Rowe played in the Australian power metal band LightForce, a group which saw moderate success in its homeland. Around 1990, the band broke up. Steve, still determined to play heavy music with a Christian message, soon joined with drummer Jayson Sherlock and guitarist Cameron Hall under the LightForce name to release the 1990 demo, Break the Curse. With this release, the band changed musically towards thrash metal with a death metal influence. Feeling that their new musical direction merited a new name, the band r… More:

Excerpt: Massimiliano Antonio “Max” Cavalera is a Brazilian singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He was the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the metal band Sepultura, before forming Soulfly in the late 1990s. Cavalera was also involved in a short-lived side project, Nailbomb, and is currently performing with Soulfly and another project, Cavalera Conspiracy. His father, Graziano Cavalera, was the Italian Ambassador to Brazil; he and his family stayed in Brazil after his tenure as ambassador ended. Graziano is buried in Belo Horizonte; Max was only 9 when his father died. Max’s family were in a state of financial crisis and family turbulence when he formed Sepultura with Jairo Guedes, Paulo Pinto, and his younger brother Igor Cavalera. In the early 1990s he relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. He did not begin to make “spiritual” music until after he quit Sepultura. His lyrics are influenced by religion and spirituality as a whole, though he is critical of religion. His albums have all been dedicated to God, and he has often been depicted by the press as a man of religion, especially in America, something that Cavalera himself says he does not understand. As he himself put it: When asked in an interview whether he was a Christian and whether Soulfly was a Christian band, he said: He also stated that he does believe in God, “But it might be different than the God the preacher preaches about.” Of enduring influence to his music is the unsolved murder of Dana Wells, his stepson, who was killed after the release of Roots in 1996. The songs “Bleed,” “First Commandment,” “Pain,” and “Tree Of Pain” are tributes to Wells. He has reunited with his brother Igor, in their band Cavalera Conspiracy, and wrote and performed on Soulfly’s Conquer, which was released in 200… More:

Auszug: Stryper is a Christian glam metal band from Orange County, California, USA. Formed in 1983, they are pioneers in the mainstream popularization of Christian rock music. Stryper enjoyed some success during the mid-late 1980s, with one Platinum and two Gold records, before breaking up in 1992 at a time when most metal (especially glam metal groups of the 1980s) were losing popularity. However, the band reunited in 2003 and since have released two new studio albums. The name “Stryper” derives from the King James Version of the Bible. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities:the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. -Isaiah 53:5 The scriptural reference is also part of Stryper’s logo on most of their releases. (They also incorporate stripes into most of their outfits and their logo.) Once the band embraced the name of Stryper, drummer Robert Sweet created the backronym: Salvation Through Redemption, Yielding Peace, Encouragement, and Righteousness. The Sweet brothers became Christians in 1975, but began to pull away from this faith. They played in a band called Parliament and Kirkadelic, which received critical acclaim from the southern California rock community, causing lead singer Clayton Kirk to quit the band. The Sweet brothers rejoined the church after their friend Kenny Metcalf (who later became the original keyboardist for Stryper) persuaded them to do so. “During rehearsals a friend of the Regime kept stopping by to witness about the glory of dedicating their music to God. A year later the rockers dropped to their knees for a prayer session that changed their lives.” – People magazine 1986 “I think you already know the story about our buddy, Ken

Excerpt: Varg Vikernes (Norwegian pronunciation: ; born 11 February 1973 near Bergen, Norway) is a Norwegian black metal musician, convicted of murder and arson, and former far-right political activist. In 1991 Vikernes conceived the one-man music project Burzum, which quickly became popular within the early Norwegian black metal scene. In 1992 he joined the band Mayhem and adopted the stage name Count Grishnackh. Around this time he became affiliated with the Heathen Front and authored several underground writings on Germanic neopaganism. In Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, director Sam Dunn described Vikernes as “the most notorious metal musician of all time”. In 1994 Vikernes was convicted of the murder of his Mayhem bandmate Øystein Aarseth, known by his stage name Euronymous. Vikernes was further convicted of four counts of arson involving the burnings of historic churches, and was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Having served almost 16 years of a 21-year prison sentence, Vikernes was released on parole in early 2009. Vikernes was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the August 1993 murder of Øystein Aarseth (aka ‘Euronymous’) of Mayhem and for the burning of three Christian churches in Norway (he was also strongly suspected of burning a fourth). He was eligible for parole in spring 2008, after serving 15 years in prison, but his application was denied. A June 2008 newspaper article mentions that Vikernes is married and has a daughter, born in 1993, and a son, born 2007. In an interview made in 2004, Vikernes said that he has a daughter (whom he has seen twice since 1993) and that he had “never been married”. In a 2008 interview he referred to his two children as well as an expected third child. In connection with his parole in March 2009 Vikernes …

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! One Bad Pig is a Christian punk and metal crossover band from Austin, Texas which formed in 1985. The Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music describes them as “Quite possibly the most popular hard-punk act ever to arise within the Christian music scene.” They were known for their mischief and irreverence on-stage, as reflected even in their reunion at Cornerstone in 2000.The group evolved out of a street ministry led by Carey Womack, who was studying to become a Baptist minister at the time. Several other members also had a background in ministry; Brian Wheeler was an Assembly of God evangelist, and Paul Q-Pek had sung with The Continental Singers. The band originally formed for a one time only performance at a local Christian music festival held on Labor Day 1985. Although they have not released any full-length albums of new material since 1991, they have written new songs, and have not declared their band broken up yet. They still play reunion shows at various Christian rock festivals.

Excerpt: Michael Moynihan (b. January 17, 1969, Boston, Massachusetts) is an American journalist, publisher and musician. He is a Fulbright scholar. He is best known for co-writing the book Lords of Chaos, about black metal. Moynihan is founder of the music group Blood Axis, the music label Storm Records and publishing company Dominion Press. Moynihan has interviewed numerous musical figures and has published several books, translations and essays. In the 1990s, Moynihan was frequently identified as a fascist or neo-fascist by some critics and fans. Moynihan accepted these descriptions with reservations in the 1990s, but in the 2000s dismissed them as inapplicable buzzwords used by “anti-this and anti-that activist types” and denounced the far right. Moynihan was born in Boston, Massachusetts to a lawyer father. Moynihan identifies his background as entirely Northern European: Irish, English, Welsh, and German. He is involved in a long standing collaborative and romantic relationship with musician Annabel Lee, with whom he has fathered a child. He became active in experimental music from 1984, forming Blood Axis in 1989 and releasing his first album under the name in 1995. Moynihan collaborated with Boyd Rice from 1989, and in 1990 the two moved into an apartment in Denver. Like Rice and Thomas Thorn, Moynihan was a member of the Church of Satan at this time. Moynihan appeared as a guest with Rice on Bob Larson’s “Manson Maniacs”, a special for Larson’s Christian radio talk show. During the summer of 1991, Moynihan states that he was visited at his apartment by agents of the United States Secret Service about an alleged plot to assassinate then President of the United States George H. W. Bush. Moynihan agreed to a polygraph test and no charges were fi… More:

I admire you for even asking. Think about how the music is bad every time you listen. Keep a responsibility to ensure that you do not listen. Pray God to give strength. God bless you.
