Sermon Outlines For Invitations To Christ

Sermon Outlines For Invitations To Christ

$6.99

“Sermon outlines for the busy pastor needing a place to start in sermon preparation or additional thoughts to add substance to Sunday’s message. Each book in this series provides 25 to 30 outlines. While the fully developed outlines in this volume are not designed for use in series preaching, they could easily be organized in that manner.Every sermon outline is directed to the needs of today’s congregants-to challenge, inspire, and motivate to service for Christ and His kingdom. As the pastor develops these outlines through further research and personal illustrations, the resulting sermons will become effective channels for spiritual life and growth. Watch for Beacon Sermon Outlines on other topics including:*Lessons From The Old Testament*The Book Of Hebrews*The Life And Teachings Of Christ*The Book Of Luke*The Book Of ColossiansThe sermon outlines in this book offer a broad base of appeals for spiritual action. Some speak to church members who have become careless about their spiritual lives. Others expose the destructive path of sinful living. Still other messages point out the critical necessity of making a decision to bring our spiritual lives into a proper relationship with Jesus Christ. Gene Williams presents strong messages calling for critical decisions.”

Endings: Invitations to Discipleship

Endings: Invitations to Discipleship

$15

“In literary works, endings are critical; an author’s conclusion to a story or an argument is intended to shape our understanding of the whole. In this engaging and deceptively simple study, a companion volume to her much-praised Beginnings, Morna D. Hooker explores the final pages of each of the four Gospels and the book of Acts and attempts to uncover the specific messages that the Evangelists hoped to convey to their readers. Nearly all of the Old Testament books have forward-looking conclusions. What, then, is the significance of the way in which these New Testament documents end?”

Invitations from God: Accepting God's Offer to Rest, Weep, Forgive, Wait, Remember and More

Invitations from God: Accepting God’s Offer to Rest, Weep, Forgive, Wait, Remember and More

$15

“Some invitations we desperately want: “Will you marry me?” “Would you consider a promotion?” Other invitations we never want to receive but must respond to all the same: “What treatment do you want for your tumor?” Invitations pound away at the coastlines of the soul with a transforming force.God is also sending invitations. Sometimes they seem less compelling than anything on my to-do list. Why would I want to say yes to the invitation to rest when I’m already so far behind? Why follow when I could lead? Why accept invitations to weep or to admit I am wrong or to wait? Saying yes might slow me down, sabotage my agenda and even undo who I think I am.Adele Calhoun, author of the popular Spiritual Disciplines Handbook, offers a book about invitations like these–divine invitations we miss or ignore because we’ve said yes to going with the cultural flow. While these invitations from God can sometimes be difficult to accept, they can heal and restore even as they shape where we go, what we do and who we become. What we say yes to, what we say no to forms the terrain of our future.Included in this book are reflection questions and exercises as well as overview charts with recommended disciplines to guide you through each theme. As you attend to the often hidden, quiet voice of the Great Inviter, you will find yourself as God created you to be.”

$3.99

Mike Martin spent his twelfth summer dodging two neighborhood boys and their invitations to join night time adventures. Since his summer has been nothing but a lonely bummer, he looks forward to the start of the school year. The sixth grade classroom at St. Francis School reunites Mike and his best friend Greg, who spent his summer on the west coast with grandparents. In religion class, Mike and Greg prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. After class they get to know a local shop keeper a little better. Mr. Moore introduces the boys to his favorite spiritual friend, St. Francis of Assisi, when they shop for a birthday gift.Events of the first week of school quickly show Mike that Confirmation’s gifts will be very helpful as he tries to deal with complicated situations. He knows he must find the truth about the stories he heard, secretly disbelieved, and yet protected all summer. Mike also applies the philosophy of St. Francis to his own life when he stumbles on the truth he dreaded to admit. Mike must answer questions from the local police, the Chief himself, from his parents, and from Greg. The first week of school is busy but exciting because Mike and Greg take on new responsibilities. An after school job, a classroom presentation, and a surprise celebration demand their focus. Underlying the activities, however, is the ever present issue in Mike’s mind of what he can say and what he shouldn’t say. Friday brings painful revelations, and by Sunday life in the neighborhood has changed dramatically. Greg and Mike must agree on an answer to the question, “Can we do the Christian thing here?”

 Disciple

Disciple

$22.99

Many Christ-followers grow to maturity over time and by accident, but have no idea how to reproduce discipleship in others. This book is designed to serve as an intentional, clear, cohesive roadmap to embarking on the journey of being a disciple of Jesus Christ and discipling others. This resource is intended to be used as a catalyst to love Jesus more, a tool to contour a life, a curriculum to shape a mind, and a resource to multiply the qualities of a disciple in others. All of this must, however, take place in the context of a relationship. Spiritual formation is meant to be realized in community. Discipleship is a journey that we do not take alone. “Page after page, followers of Jesus will find themselves on a guided tour through a discovery process where they will hear new invitations to take ‘the next step’ on their journey to becoming more like the Master.” George Boyd, District Superintendent, Associated Gospel Churches”…a tremendous resource that will effectively equip both leaders and participants in the Christian life. I would recommend Disciple as a resource for small group study, mentoring programs, or initiatives to disciple new and growing believers.” Darren DeGraaf, Director of Leadership Services, Arrow Leadership “Mike, thank you for helping us understand the spiritual journey of discipleship as a balance of biblical clarity, individual humility, and missional involvement.” John Latta, Director, Canadian Youth Network”…an exceptional tool that will impact any reader at the lay, professional, academic, and personal levels. Every chapter includes thoughtful, enriching and compelling information, insights, and applications toward deepening the journey of discipleship.” Paul E. Magnus, President Emeritus and Distinguished Professor of Leadership and Management, Briercrest College and Seminary”I love the emphasis on the Scriptures and the premise that these topics and passages are worthy of our attention and our conversation

THE CHBISTIAN MISSION. It is scarcely possible for an organization to be devised beforehand to meet those peculiar circumstances which exist in society at various periods. God has contented himself with the general direction to his servants to go everywhere and gather all they can out of the world unto His kingdom, leaving it to them to adapt their measures and invitations to the various classes whom they may have to deal with. And therefore we may notice how repeatedly individuals and societies, longing to accomplish some purpose of love for Hun, have only by slow degrees, and patient, laboured efforts discovered the processes necessary and most calculated to ensure success. It is a matter for thankfulness that so much of past experience has been stored up for our benefit, and that entering into the labours of others for our Master we may hope at least to leave behind us a record which may aid the farther progress of the great discovery which all the Lord’s people must needs be so intent upon, and which even now seems so far from attainment—how to turn the tide of human thought and feeling to the largest possible extent in the direction of heaven. The Christian Mission, although as yet but in its infancy, and having done but little throughout this crowded countryfor the attainment of this great end, has, we think, become sufficiently developed and established in the twelve years of its past existence to demonstrate the value of certain appliances for the salvation of souls. And if it should never, as we trust under God it shall, mightily affect the whole population of the country by its own operations, yet at the least it may serve as a torch to show Christians everywhere the road into the ice-bound fastnesses where so many

In Harm's Way: A History of Christian Peacemaker Teams

In Harm’s Way: A History of Christian Peacemaker Teams

$49

In 1984 Evangelicals for Social Action founder Ron Sider posed the questions, What would happen if we in the Christian church developed a new nonviolent peacekeeping force ready to move into violent conflicts and stand peacefully between warring parties? … Everyone assumes that for the sake of peace it is moral and just for soldiers to get killed by the hundreds of thousands, even millions. Do we not have as much courage and faith as soldiers? Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) has been trying to answer those questions since 1986. CPT has responded to invitations from grassroots organizers on five continents who are using nonviolent strategies to confront systemic oppression. This book provides a glimpse into the mistakes and successes, the triumphs and tragedies, that teams have shared in with local co-workers in various nations. It also continues to pose the question, What would happen if CPT’s efforts were multiplied by millions of Christians with a radical commitment to Jesus’s nonviolent gospel?

Alan Turner is “a man for all seasons”. As English as Sir Thomas More was, he was born in 1947 and schooled in his home town of Bournemouth, England.Raised in a middle class home as a “baby boomer” his career yearning toward either professional soccer or theater took a 180degree turn at 19 years of age.He and others recognized that God had bestowed an Anointed preaching gift upon him.In preparation for this new career, his time spent at the London Bible College he refers to as “arguably the three best years of my life”!The Christian life has not come easy to Alan, by whose admission he declares he was not cognizant for many years of his deep need of healing from the sin and pain of emotional rejection and religious legalism! His parallel history with the rejection and restoration of Israel, and subsequent 1982 Call of God to Bible- teach as a ‘Christian Zionist’, qualifies him to address this vital subject for our day: Replacement Theology. He is father to three married children, Rachel, Anna and Joel….. as well as grandfather to seven! He resides in Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.ALL invitations to Alan for speaking engagements can be channeled via the MENORAH WEBSITE …….members.shaw.ca/menorah and the Email address: menorah@shaw.ca
