Because back centuries ago The Christians wanted to convert the Pagans to Christianity so they “stole” certain celebrations and adapted them to Christian rites. They took the celebration of the winter solctice/yule and created Christ’s birthday from it. (In fact science has proven that Christ could NOT have been born in December because, Mary and Joseph had to travel to Joseph’s place of birth to pay taxes and be counted in the census which at that time was done in the Spring/early summer months. Therefore Christ was not born on December 25. They figure that Chists birth and death probably came around the same time of year some theorize that his “rebirth” was on the same day as his birth had been 30something years prior…Who knows.
To Mel…Paganism is a far older religion than Christianity. Panganism has been a religion since the beginning humans began appearing on earth. Christianity has only been a relgion for 2,000 years humanity was around thousands (if not millions) of years prior to Christianity being “born”.
